Weather Thursday: high 63,

another beautiful day.
Columbia made a brilliant
second voyage into space
Thursday morning and then
discovered that a “dead” fuel cell
might force an early end to their
five-day mission.
Christian Chapman, charge
d’affaires at the U. S. Embassy,
was not hit Thursday when a
bearded gunman in a black
leather jacket emptied a seven-
shot pistol at him in a posh
residential area near the Eiffel
Tower in Paris.
Several major banks cut their
prime lending rates to 16.5
percent Thursday. It was the
second cut in a week and put the
prime rate at its lowest level in
nearly a year.
Tryon Toymakers have
returned from Indianapolis,
Indiana where they participated
in Holiday Mart 1981. Holiday
Mart is a four day invitational
show composed of 30 exhibitors
from California to
Massachusetts. On the return
home they stopped in Berea, Ky.

To Open Here
Edgar M. Norris & Co., Inc.,
Investment Securities, will have
a grand opening Friday of its
Tryon Office at 305 N. Trade
Street. There will be a ribbon
cutting at 2 p.m. followed by open
house until 7 p.m.
Billy E. Faggart is the local
account executive. Mr. Faggart
said that he was looking forward
to working with the residents in
the area and hoped that everyone
would visit their remodeled
facilities. He stated that they
were a full service investment
securities dealer.
Make Volleyball
All-Conference
Four Polk Central girls were
chosen to the Appalachian All-
Conference Volleyball team.
Tawana Rickman was selected
for the second year. Others
chosen were Barbara Price
Melissa Williams and Helen
Benkert. Polk Central was
runner-up to Edneyville.

The Tryon Kiwanis Club
meet Tuesday at 12:45 n m

All Conference
The Polk Central Patriots
placed two on the 1981
Appalachian Football All-
Conference team. Chosen were
tight end Kenneth Arrowood and
defensive end Gary Blackwell.
Both Gary and Kenneth are
seniors.
None of the Tryon Tigers were
selected to the All-Conference
team.
Rescue Auxiliary
Elects Officers
The Polk County Rescue Squad
Auxiliary has elected the
following officers: Ellen
Gustafson, president; Shirley
Pack, vice pres.; June Williams,
sec.-treas. The publicity will be
handled by Ellen Gustafson and
Donna Grigg.
The Auxiliary meets the second
Monday of each month during the
winter.
Meet Tonight
The Polk County
Commissioners will meet tonight
at 7 o’clock at the Columbus
Town Hall.
Revival Underway
A revival at Blue Ridge Free
Will Baptist Church is being held
at 7 o’clock each night Nov. 16 —
20. Ralph Saxton, Jr. is the guest
speaker and there will be special
singers each night. Robert Price
is the pastor.
Six Visitors
From Nepal
Tuesday afternoon six visitors
from Nepal will be in Polk County
studying conservation practices.
They will study conservation
tillage, terraces, grass
waterways, ponds, and forestry
work. Nepal is very mountainous
and has conservation problems
similar to Western North
Carolina. They will visit various
areas in Western North Carolina
this week.
Visiting here will be: Bharat
Dangol, Deputy Director,
General Ministry of Agriculture;
Ishwar Man Thamrakar, acting
divisional engineer with the
Department of Water Supply and
Sewage; Bal Ram Bhatta,
Deputy Chief Conservator of
Forests; Promod Nath Regmi,
Division Chief for the Loan
Division of the Agricultural
Development Bank in
Kathmandu; Nasiruddin Ansair,
civil engineer; Indra Bahadur
Mali, Programme Officer with
the Ministry of Panchayat and
Local Development.
