Marijuana grown on farms in north and central Florida might be second only to the $764 million annual orange crop as Florida’s most lucrative agricultural commodity. Federal agents found at least 155 marijuana fields, some deliberately booby- trapped with rattlesnakes or buried spikes in 41 Florida counties. Tuesday afternoon Grandfather Mountain had a little more than one inch of snow and ice. The Tryon Town Council will have a special meeting today at 2 p.m. at the Town Hall to discuss Land Acquisition. Today from 11 a m. to 4 p.m. is "Christmas in the Carolinas" at the Church of Holy Cross. Luncheon will be served next door at the Congregational Church. C 28782 Asks That Lynn Be Re-Instated The Polk County Commissioners met 16 November 1981 in the Columbus Town Hall, Chairman Arledge announced that the grant of $18,000 (with a $2,000 county match) for the emergency communications system had been awarded by J. R. Reynolds. Phillip Pleasants requested the commissioners to ask the state legislature to reinstate Lynn as a town with the charter they used to have. Actually they wish for a bill to repeal the bill which repealed the township act The Commissioners voted to forward the petition to the Legislature with a favorable report. The request for the names of those persons aided by the Soil Conservation service came up again. Attorney Foster was directed to write letters to Secretary Grimsly, as suggested by the commission, and to the commission for reports and names. The Community Based Alternative part of the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention program received $1022 more than expected; this was matched by $200 county money. The commissioners bought a van from the Area Mental Health for $1.00. The Green Creek Country Club subdivision plat was approved. Jack Morse was appointed to the Planning Board (Continued On Back Page) THURSDAY, NOV. 19,1981 More On Wreck Patrolman C. T. Kennedy who investigated the one-car accident of Wm. A. Oman Monday at 6:30 p.m. said that Mr. Oman’s car was traveling east on Hwy. 108 and ran off the road and over the guard rail and caught on fire. He stated that Robert Lindsey and Rick Powell stopped and Mr Lindsey pulled Mr. Oman out of the car. The car was destoryed by fire. Racketball Tournament There will be a Racketball Tournament Saturday, Nov. 21st beginning at 10 a m. at the Del Guercio Community Park in Landrum. There is no fee and everyone is invited. Tennis Adult Beginning Tennis Lessons will be held Monday and Wednesday at 10 a m. and 1 p m. at the Del Guercio Community Park in Landrum. They will begin November 23rd. There is no fee. Bishop Mr and Mrs. Clannie H. Bishop of Columbus, N. C. will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary at their home on Walker St. with a drop-in from 2 til 6 Sat., Nov. 28th. Mr. and Mrs. Bishop were married at St. Catherines School in Richmond, Va.,Dec. 21,1931. Their children are Halford Bishop of Tryon, Mrs Betty Carr of Delray Beach, Fla., Mrs. Rosemary DeVine of Spartanburg. Stanley Bishop of Archorage, Alaska and Mrs. Carolyn Gowan of Spartanburg. All friends and relatives are invited. The Rock Hill, S. C newspaper reported that Rick Gosnell of Landrum raced in the Heat races, Hobby Division at the Chester County Speedway on Nov. 14th.
