of peace, President Reagan laid
before the world Wednesday, a
four-step plan for sheathing
nuclear weapons and pulling
back troops in Europe,
challenging the Soviet Union to
"share our commitment” to
arms reduction. The Kremlin
denounced Reagan's speech as
"propagandistic."
N. C. State Insurance
Commissioner John Ingram,
contending he doesn’t take
vacations, responded angrily
Wednesday to news stories
questioning his vacation time and
state-paid telephone calls to his
Myrtle Beach, S. C. home.
Lou Eisenberg won the $5
million prize, the biggest ever
from the New York State Lottery.
He will get $239,000 a year for the
next 20 years.
Area veterinans report that
there is an epidemic of
Parvovirus. This disease is most
devastating to young puppies, but
all dogs can get it. The fatality
rate in young dogs is 90%. It is

Tryon Town Hall
Closed 26,27
The Tryon Town Hall offices
will be closed Thursday, Nov.
26th and Friday, Nov. 27th for
Thanksgiving holidays. There
will be no garbage collection on
Thursday. Garbage collection
will resume the regular schedule
on Friday.
Two More Fires
The Landrum Volunteer Fire
Department was called to two
more fires Tuesday about 7 p.m.,
one of them was on Hearthstone
Ridge and the other on Redland
Road.
Peniel Revival
Thanksgiving Revival Services
will be held at Peniel Baptist
Church, Columbus, beginning
Sunday morning, Nov. 22nd and
continuing through Wednesday
evening, Nov. 25th. the services
begin each evening at 7 p.m. The
guest speaker will be Rev. Joe
Messer, former missionary to
Colombia, South America.
Special music will be provided
each evening.
A nursery will be provided.
The public is invited to attend
Dancing Saturday
There will be dancing every
Saturday night from 7:30 to 11 at
Stearns gym. It is sponsored by
the Polk County Cloggers. A
special event this week will be
Uncle Cefus.
Named Manager At
Northwestern Bank
Kaye A. Williams
Tryon, N. C. — Northwestern
Bank has announced two changes
in management personnel. Kaye
A. Williams has been promoted to
assistant vice president and
manager of the Tryon office. In
this capacity she replaces David
L. Phillips, Jr., who has
transferred to Northwestern’s
Eden office as vice president and
manager
Ms Williams, a graduate of
Limestone College of Gaffney, S.
C, joined Northwestern in 1977 as
an administrative secretary. She
was promoted to administrative
officer in 1978, marketing and
business development officer in
1979 and assistant branch
executive officer in 1980. Later
that same year she became
assistant vice president.
A native of Campobello,. S. C.,
Ms. Williams serves as director

The Polk Central Patriots will
have a wrestling team this year.
Robbie Hutcherson will be the
coach. All matches will be away.

Jerome Hannon
In Germany
Spec 4 J. Jerome Hannon, son
of Heywood Hannon of Tryon, has
arrived for duty at
Ludwigsburg. West Germany.
Hannon is a vehicle driver with
the 32nd -Transportation
Company.
His wife, Carmen, is. the
daughter of Nobia Allen of Tryon.
