Justice Department rejected North Carolina's reappointment plan for state House seats Thursday, saying the use of large, multiple member districts reduced black voting strength in some areas. The decision marked the third time Justice Department officials have rejected a North Carolina plan under the 1965 voting rights act, which covers 40 of the state’s 100 counties. Miss Kim Burrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Burrell of Tryon served as a page in Governor Jim Hunt’s office in Raleigh the week of Jan. 18 — 21. Kim is a junior at Tryon High School. The Health Fair Week in Polk County will be held the week of April 15 — 24. Friday morning at the Polk County Election Board’s office in Columbus, Roy L. Quigley, of Asheville, a Special FBI agent will be the guest speaker. Odell Matthews is in charge of the program. Here Tonight David Moore of Asheville will speak to the Tryon-Polk County Board of Realtors tonight at 7 p.m. at the NCNB Conference Room. He will speak on “Apprasials.” Mr. Moore is an independent fee apprasier and real estate consultant. He has been actively involved in appraising for the past 12 years working throughout southwest Virginia and western North Carolina. Appraisal assignments have involved residential, commercial and industrial real estate. His professional memberships include Member Apprasial Institute, MAI, American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and Realtor, North Carolina Association of Realtors. He is the current chapter president of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers in western North Carolina. He has taught seminars appraising. Read The Bulletin For Local News Mann Is Polk Chamber Speaker John F. Mann The Polk County Chamber of Commerce will have a dinner meeting Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Saluda Truck Stop. The guest speaker will be John Mann, past president of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Mann, a native of Greenville, studied pre-law at The Citadel and the University of Alabama and graduated wtih LLB from the University of S. Carolina Law School in 1951. He is a past president of the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce, past Zone Chairman of Lions Club, served three terms as a member of the Greenville City Council and served as vice president of Greenville Jaycees and State Director. Reservations must be made by Tues., Jan. 26 by calling Cheryl Shaffer at 894-8237 between 9 a.m. and 5p.m. Tryon Federal Has Successful Year The annual meeting of the Tryon Federal Savings and Loan Association Shareholders was held Wed., Jan. 13th. At the meeting the operation and financial statements for 1981 were reviewed. Considering the difficult economic conditions affecting the industry, the Directors were pleased to present the statements The Federal Home Loan Bank Board showed that 70% of the Associations across the country as operating in the red. Tryon Federal had the enviable position of being in the top 30% of the associations ending the year with a profit. Interest was paid to 5,600 members for a total just slightly under $3,000,000. The savings deposits were up $2,582,00o for a total of $31,941,000. The loan portfolio increased by $921,000. At the end of the year total assets were $34,870, a growth of $650,000. J. Russell Constance and Ray J. Foster were re-elected to the Board of Directors. At the Directors meeting following the annual meeting the following officers were elected: Thomas P. Johnson, Chairman of the Board of Directors; W. L. Hague, Vice chairman; Henry Huntsinger, Vice Chairman; J. Russell Constance, President and Managing Officer; Ray J.
