Hijacking in more than 6 months. An article in Wednesday’s Spartanburg Herald stated that Greer’s Ray Smith is the top college scorer. A junior college standout, the 6’7” power forward is leading the nation in scoring in all college divisions. He was averaging 30.9 points per game for Armstrong State Pirates in Savannah, Ga. The Tryon Tigers had the opportunity to play against him when Greer won the S. C. AAA State Championship and we believe that most of the Tigers will still remember him. C. 28782 For Commissioner Charles (Bill) McKaig Charles (Bill) McKaig, 51, a Democrat has announced for Polk County Commissioner. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James B. McKaig of Tryon. He is a retired U.S. Air Force Non-Commissioned Office of 21 years service. He was a Chief Master Sergeant and served in both Korea and Vietnam, receiving numerous awards and medals, including the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Award. His last duty station was Travis A.F.B., Calif, where he was Field Maintenance Superintendent of the largest Field Maintenance Unit in the Air Force. Earle Elementary School will represent Spartanburg County in the State Map Puzzle Contest in Columbia Saturday. Clifford Stott J. Clifford Stott, 55, has filed for Polk County Commissioner subject to the Republican Primary. Mr. Stott is a native of Polk County and is married to the former Katherine Watts of Spartanburg. They have two children, a daughter, Johnie and son, Layne. They are members of the Pacolet Hills Baptist Church where Mr. Stott is a Deacon. He is a graduate of Green Creek High School and a veteran of World War II. He was honorably: discharged as a Sergeant and served overseas in France. He is a former Countv Commissioner and a former member of the Tri-County Health Board.
