Weather Thursday: high 57, low 36, hum. 69%. Friday morning was cloudy and cool. Blue Ridge Weavers in Tryon is remodeling and an unusual accident took place Friday morning. The front of the building was being painted and the workers had their ladders on the metal awning. The owning gave way and Clyde Calhoun, Billy Mills, ladders and paint, came tumbling down to the sidewalk in front of the building. Mr. Calhoun broke his ankle and Mr. Mills was also painfully injured, but not seriously. Motorists passing by must have wondered what Bob Richardson, Nancy Trask, Louise Hilton and Eunice Powell were doing out front with brooms and water hose. They were trying to remove the paint from the sidealk. The Tryon Town Council meets tonight at 7:30 at the Town Hall. The Polk County School Board meets tonight at 7:30 at the Agriculture Extension Conference Room. The Tryon Kiwanis Club meets Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. the public hearing on the Town of Continued On Back Page Mrs. Odom’s Talk Was Interesting The Polk County Historical Association met Feb. 2nd at 3:30 P m at the Polk County Library in Columbus. Mrs. Barbara Odom of the Green River Planta tion was the guest speaker. Mrs. Odom gave a most informative history — past and present — of this famous Polk County landmark. Mrs. Odom’s intensive research on the original owner, Joseph McDowell Carson inspired many to do some extra reading about this outstanding landowner. A large crowd attended meeting. — Reporter the A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Winston Hoy (Laura Jackson) of Myrtle Beach, S. C. are parents of a son Thomas Nelson, born January 13th. He has an older sister Kathryn, and and older brother William Winston Hoy, III. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Jackson, II of Myrtle Beach and the maternal great grandmother is Mrs. Nelson Jackson of Tryon. William T. Roff, Jr., 50, a resident of Howard Gap Road. Tryon City School District has announced for the Tryon School Board. He has lived here since 1957. Mr. Roff received a B.S. degree in textile chemistry from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and an M.S. degree from Clemson University in chemistry. A two year tour of duty with the U. S. Navy in radiological medicine was done at the Naval Medical Research Facility in Washington, D.C.
