President Reagan’s
congressional allies, who
delivered victory after victory in
last year’s Capitol Hill budget
fights, are doubtful that his 1983
spending plan — with its massive
deficits and additional cuts in
domestic programs — will
survive an election year session
of Congress.
N. C. Gov. Jim Hunt says
President Reagan’s plan to slash
$43 billion from domestic
programs is “absolutely wrong.”
Political strife in El Salvador
claimed more than 6,100 lives
during 1981, the Reagan
administration said in a human
rights survey released Sunday.
“Hooper” written by Bill
Kerby, starring Bert Reynolds,
will be televised Wednesday
night at 8:30 as a CBS special
movie presentation. Mr. Kerby is

Meets Thursday
A valentine party will be given
by the Landrum Garden Club for
the residents of the Landrum
Estates. It will be held at the
Landrum Estates Club room on
Thursday, Feb. 11 at 10:30 a.m.
Mrs. Juliette Staggs and Mrs.
Annie Lindsay are in charge of
the program. Co-hostesses are
Mrs. Zona Stewart and Mrs.
Lizzie Waldrop. All Garden Club
members are asked to bring two
gifts.

Miss Price, a 1978 graduate of
R-S Central High School,
recieved a degree in cosmetology
from Isothermal Community
College.
Mr. Foster was graduated from
Polk Central High School in 1978
and is employed bv Leroy

The wedding is planned for
March 6, at Shingle Hollow
Congregational Holiness Church
of Rutherfordton.

Man Killed:
Another Wounded
Michael Eugene Ward, 39, of
Rt. 3, Inman, S. C. was killed and
Milton Harry Degraw, 35, Rt. 1,
Landrum, S. C. was wounded
Sunday at 11:15 p.m. on Mountain
View Road, Landrum.
Detective Mike Ennis of the
Spartanburg County Sheriff’s
Department said that both men
were shot. Charged with murder
of Ward and assault and battery
with intent to kill Degraw are
Olin Dean Lawrence, 40 of Rt. 2,
Page Rd., Columbus and Enoch
Ray Sarratt, 46, of Redland Road,
Landrum. Officer Ennis said that
the investigation was continuing.
Both men were taken to St.
Luke’s Hospital by the Landrum
Rescue Squad. Ward was dead on
arrival and Degraw underwent
surgery and was reported in fair
condition Monday.
