Landrum are parents of a
daughter, Marci DeeAnn, born
February 15th in Spartanburg
General Hospital. She has a
sister, Heather, who is 20 months
old.
Paternal grandmother is Mrs.
Ella Mae Childers of Landrum
and the maternal grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. James R.
Helms of Landrum and James
Brown of Greenville, S. C. The
maternal great-grandmothers
are Mrs. J.L. Brown of Saluda

To Polk County
Polk County received $76,439.59
from the 1% Sales and Use Tax
for the fourth quarter in 1981. Of
this amount $61,464.50 was
received by Polk County,
$3,600.83 by Columbus, $2,873.10
to Saluda, and $8,501.16 to Tryon.
The money was returned on the
basis of population: Polk 13,007,
Columbus 763, Saluda 608, and
Tryon 1,799.

Tax Assistance
For The Elderly
Free tax assistance is available
through TCE, Tax Counseling for
the Elderly TCE is designed to
help taxpayers who cannot afford
professional tax help,
particularly those who file short
forms and qualify for the Earned
Income Credit. Volunteers will
also assist low income elderly,
handicapped and non-English
speaking individuals.
Volunteers alert taxpayers to
special credits and deducations,
but do not prepare complicated
tax returns with items such as
capital gains, business expenses
and the like.
A taxpayer coming to Just For

should bring this year's tax
package, wage and earnings
statements (Forms W-2)
received from employers,
interest statements from banks,
a copy of last year's tax return if
available and any other relevant

Polk County
Bridge Closing
RALEIGH — Maintenance
work to the bridge on Peak Street
Extension (Secondary Road 1534)
southeast of the Polk County town
of Columbus will allow it to
support all legal loads.
The bridge was closed this
week while North Carolina
Department of Transportation
(NCDOT) workmen began
replacing the superstructure
Currently the bridge is posted for
a single vehicle weight of 10 tons
24 tons truck-tractor, semi
trailer. Work is expected to lake
about three weeks.
