Only three months ago North
Carolina was in the midst ol an
18-month drought which lowered
water tables and threatened
crons. Now. National Weather
Service officials say continued
precipitation could become a
problem in the upcoming
planting season.
Joe Wray and Clara Rogers of
Tryon will be on the Nancy
Welch Show Thursday at 10:30 on
Ch. 7. They will tell about the
Children’s Theatre Festival.
The Basketweaving Class
which was to start Friday
evening has been changed to
Monday at 6 p.m. at Stearns
School in Columbus. The
instructor will be Linda Thomas.
Mrs. Vesta Joseph of Tryon and
Mrs. Libby Mahler of Delray
Beach, Fla. (formerly of Tryon)
won the Ladies Doubles Royal
Psalm Senior Spring Tennis
Classic at Coral Cables, Fla. Mrs.
Mahler with Capt. Mike Wolfe
also won the Mixed Doubles. It
was a USTA Sanctioned
Tournament.

Recreation Department
Sponsors Trip
To Fair
Plans are being made for trips
to the World's Fair by the Polk
County Recreation Department.
Trips open to the public are being
planned as well as a special trip
for senior citizens. Costs will be
approximately $20 per person
which will include one day ticket
and transportation to and from
the fair. These are one day trips
but if enough interest is shown in
trips of a longer nature these
would also be arranged.
Anyone desiring more
information or wishing to sign up
for a trip may do so by calling the
Recreation Department at 894-
8199.
Pace Reunion
The annual Pace Reunion will
be held Sunday, Mar. 7th at
Gowensville Community
Building. Also, at this time, Mrs.
E. D. Pace's 96th birthday will be
celebtated.
Friends and relatives are
invited.
Lunch will be at 1 p.m., plates
and cups will be provided.
Mill Spring PTA
Meets Tuesday
The Mill Spring PTA will meet
Tuesday, March 9th at 7:30 p.m.
at the school auditorium. The
program will be presented by
kindergarten through the 2nd
grade classes.

Miss Carrie Lee Massey
Miss Carrie Lee Massey has
announced that she will offer for
re-election to the Tryon School
Board.
A native of Newberry, S. C.,
Miss Massey is a graduate of
Embury High School and
attended Benedict College in
Columbia, S.C. She graduated
from Alamella Beauty College in
New York and also graduated
from Teachers Training and
Cosmetologist at New York
University. She has operated a
beauty shop in Tryon for 32 years.
A nurse technician, she is also
employed as a private duty
nurse . _

other organizations in the church.

Rotary Community
Chorus To Start
Rehearsals March 8
The Rotary Community Chorus
will start rehearsals for its
Spring Concert on Monday,
March 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the
Congregational Church on
Melrose Ave. Two performances
of the Spring Concert will be
presented at the Fine Arts Center
on Saturday evening May 15 and
Sunday afternoon May 16.
Under the direction of Betty
Brewer, this Spring Concert wiU
emphasize the "lighter"
repertoire of standard and time-
tested popular and semi-classical
songs in which both the Chorus
and soloists will take part
