The Reagan administration
took the unusual step Tuesday of
releasing photographs taken by
U. S. reconnaisance aircraft
depicting what it said was a
massive Soviet and Cuban-
backed military buildup in
Nicaragua.
Monday’s Bulletins didn’t
arrive in Landrum until Tuesday.
The Postal Service hasn’t given
us any indication of what went
wrong, just that they got there a
day late.
The Polk County Democratic
Precincts meet tonight at 7:30 at
their polling places unless
otherwise announced.
Tonight at 7 p.m. the Tryon
girls basketball team will play
Hiwassee Dam at Swain High
School, Bryson City. Friday night
at 8:30 the Tryon boys will play
Cullowhee at the same place.
Friday there will be an Old
Timers Basketball Game at Polk
Central gym. The girls game at
6:30 p.m. will have the 1968-71
teams playing the 1976-77 teams.

Fiddlers Convention
Saturday in Landrum
The 3rd annual Upper South
Carolina State Fiddlers
Convention will be held Saturday
at Landrum High School gym.
The convention will be from 2
p.m. until 11 p.m and the contest
time is 7 p.m. until 10 p.m
Awards will be presented at 10:30
p.m.
The band contest will be from
2:30 until 5 p.m.
Contest catagories are: Fiddle,
Acoustical Guitar, Blue Grass
Band, Bull Base, Bango,
Mandolin, Do-Bro, Dulcimer,
Honky-Tonk Piano.
Wreck
There was a two-car wreck on
Hwy. 14 Monday at 12:45 p.m.
Monday at Branyon Straits.
Harold Smith, driving a
Chevrolet van was reportedly
forced off the highway and
overturned down a ravine. The
Landrum Rescue Squad took Mr.
Smith to Spartanburg General
Hospital.
