Wednesday morning was foggy, but it was supposed to clear up later in the day. President Reagan dismissed as propaganda Tuesday the Soviet Union’s call for the United States to join a moratorium on nuclear missies aimed at Europe. “A freeze simply is not good enough because it doesn’t go far enough”, Reagan said. “We must go beyond a freeze. American factories and mines stepped up production by 1.6 percent last month, breaking a string of six monthly declines, government figures indicated Tuesday. A gas war is on. The price of gasoline is coming down. One station in Spartanburg dropped its price to 99.9 per gallon for the weekend. It’s not that low here, but it’s headed in that direction. One station has dropped its gas to 1.11.9. Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. there is a Fried Chicken Supper at Sunny View School. C. 28782 Red Cross Interim Report Is $3,660 While many Red Cross canvassers are still knocking on doors, 13 of them have completed their assignments and turned their money in. A total of $3,666 has been reported thus far against a goal of $16,600, according to Joe Thurber, fund drive chairman. Thurber said that canvassers with further calls to make should make an interim report of money collected. Approximately 90 have not yet been heard from. Solicitors who have completed work and turned in results include: Miriam Rabb, Faith Bell, Robert Watson, James Foster, Arthur Sedenborg, Kate Mahannah, Helen Spence, Dr. 0. N. Coppedge, Tom Gibson, Doris Capers, Mary Raines, William Martin and James E. Johnson. Handbell Choirs At First Baptist Church The music ministry of the First Baptist Church of Landrum will present the Handbell Choirs and the “Peniel Quartet” of Peniel Baptist Church in concert on Sunday, March 21st, at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be under the direction of Mrs. Bill Pate, music director of the church.
