the Salvadoran army and the
rebels last Thursday.
N. C. Gov. Jim Hunt, angry
over funding cutbacks, has
canceled the state's 17-year-old
agreement with the federal
government to inspect hospitals
and nursing homes for Medicare
eligibility. He said the state’s
contract would be canceled
effective June 30 because
Washington repeatedly reduced
funds it promised for the work.
Precinct No. 1 Democrats will
meet tonight at 7:30 at the Polling
Place. All interested Democrats
are invited.
Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Mrs.
Robert Walker will present "Use
of Literature in Art" at the Mural
Room of the Fine Arts Center.
This is for Lanier Library
members. New members are
welcome.

Sunday Reception
For Craft Exhibit
Tryon Craft’s 13th Annual
Exhibit will be opened by a
reception with refreshments in
the Mural Room of the Tryon
Fine Arts Center between 3 and 5
p.m. next Sunday, the 28th. The
exhibits will continue on display
in the adjoining Gallery from 10
to 12 and 2 to 4 Monday to
Saturday, through April 29th.
Tryon Crafts, Inc. was founded
in 1960 "to promote an apprecia
tion of handicraft and its place in
the social cultural and economic
life of the community." It now
offers courses in a wide range of
courses taught by talented
instructors. In the past year, with
the opening of the Farwell Annex
to the Center, it has installed
specialized equipment for new
courses in ceramics and
lapidary.
On exhibit will be works of
students and instructors in the
major handicraft field of fabrics,
including spinning, weaving,
knitting, crewel and needlework
and rug hooking. There will also
be exhibits of work in silver
jewelry, enamelling — on copper
and silver, woodcarving,
basketry and from the new
classes in pottery and lapidary.
Some of the exhibits will be
available for purchase.
On Tryon Day, April 10, Tryon
Crafts will hold a Crafts Fair
concurrently with the Exhibit,
where a wide variety of articles
contributed by the students and
supporters will be on sale. The
proceeds will be added to the
support of the Tryon Crafts
program for the coming year.
