Girl’s State
Thermal Belt Business and
Professional Women’s Club
sponsors representatives from
the local area to Girl’s State each
year. Two girls are sent to the
Tar Heel Girl’s State and two
girls to the Palmetto Girls’ State.
This year the representative
from Tryon High School is Alison
Meares, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry H. Meares of Tryon.
Polk Central High School will
send Helen Benkert, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Benkert of
Columbus.
Landrum High School
representatives are Rosanne
Little, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Dever Little of Landrum and
Kelley Smith, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Don Smith of Landrum.
The girls are rising seniors and
are selected according to
leadership, character, courage,
honesty, scholarship,
cooperativeness, physical
fitness, and community service
activities.

Craft Fair Sale
A Craft Fair sponsored by
Tryon Crafts, Inc. as part of th
program for Tryon Day on
Saturday will offer a variety of
Tryon-crafted articles for sale in
the Farwell Memorial Garden on
the north side of the Tryon Fine
Arts Center, or in the event of
inclement weather indoors in
Tryon Craft’s groundfloor
headquarter is the Center.
The Fair will open at 11 o’clock
and continue until all items are
sold. There will be items for the
young and old, as well as a
special corner for pets.
Everything on sale will have been
hand-crafted by students,
teacher or friends of Tryon
Crafts with the entire proceeds
going to support the year-round
program of courses it sponsors.
