Petitions Court
To Stop Annexation
The Save Our Suburbs have
petitioned the N. C. Superior
Court to stay the Town of Tryon
Annexation Ordinance which was
to take effect on June 1st. The
petition was filed April 21st in the
Polk County Superior Court and
the stay of Annexation was
granted by Judge Kirby in
Henderson County on April 22nd.
The next step is up to the Superior
Court to decide if the Annexation
Ordinance is legal.

Named as Mental Health
Bellringers for the 1982
Bellringer Fund-Raising
Campaign are: Mrs. Tim Jones,
Mrs. John Rogers, Mrs Ruth
Morgan, Mrs. Lois Williams and
Mrs. Jerry L. Horne, according
to an announcement by Al
Fisher, President of the Mental
Health Association in North
Carolina.
“The Mental Health
Association is a nation wide,
voluntary, non-governmental
organization dedicated to
fighting mental illness and
promoting mental health
throughout the State and
Nation,” said President Fisher.
Through the social action and
public education programs the
Association helps to assure that
appropriate funds are available
to support public mental health
services in North Carolina and
that laws are passed to protect
the rights of the mentally ill
person to humane and dignified
treatment.

There was a two-car collision
Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at the
intersection of Highway 176 and
Hwy. 14 at the Railroad crossing
in Landrum
A car driven by Timothy Otis
Paris, Rt. 1, Inman, S.C. was
coming down Hwy. 176 and a car
driven by Sam D. Atkins, Rt. 2,
Campobello was going east on
Hwy 14
There were no injuries and no
one was charged. Landrum
Police Officer Ricky Blackwell
investigated the accident.

Meet Wednesday
The Tryon Town Council will
meet in executive session
Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Town
Hall to discuss Attorney-Client
related material.
Buys Home
Hugh N. O'Neill, formerly of
Roquefort, France, has
purchased a home on
Glengarnock Road, Tryon, from
Mrs. Winthrop Tuttle.
Mr. O’Neill was born in Great
Britain on the Isle of Man,
graduated from the University of
Liverpool, and was employed for
40 years with the International
Telephone and Telegraph
Company (ITT) as their
technical advisor in Spain.

Leadership Event
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -
Three local students, Carole
Hicks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Hicks, of Lake Lure, a
student at Polk Central High
School and Marlene Lair,
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert
E. Lair, Jr. of Grady Avenue;
and Carolyn Roff, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Roff, of
Howard Gap Road, both students
at Tryon High School, were
selected to participate in the
President’s Leadership Award
Program held at Converse
College recently.
They were nominated by their
high school principals based on
leadership qualities.
The weekend agenda included
a campus tour, an orientation
program and a series of
leadership workshops conducted
by the Converse Women's Center
staff and Student Government
officers.
