Clyde Dedmon, promoter of races in the area will have a race Saturday at Spartanburg County Fair Grounds at 2 p.m. There will be a new division this year with 6-cylinder drivers. Any driver wishing to enter should be at the fair ground in time to get their car registered at no entry fee. Three classes will be featured which are Street Stock, Hobby (6- cylinder), and Limited Sportsman. Local drivers who will be driving are Rick Gosnell, Leroy Maybry, Merle Howard and Danny Peeler. Other drivers familar with the area will be Lee McCallister, Bruce Bishop and Billy Scott to name a few. Anyone with questions should contact Rick Gosnell. Heart Fund Run A Success J. Alan Peoples, president of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce reports that the Heart Fun Run held last Saturday at the Mill Spring School was a big success. Mr. Peoples said that due to a number of persons and organizations who gave freely of their time and talents, $200 was raised for the Heart Fund. Buys Home Mrs. Clyde Rapp b 88 purchased the former Lou Hode home on Mimosa Lane. The sale was through Tryo Properties and C. Allan Pruette & Associates. AFS Students To Speak To Rotary The Tryon Rotary Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Hearthstone Inn. The program will be presented by Mrs. R. Shaw Pettigrew; teacher at Polk Central High School. Patricipating will be three students from abroad living and studying in the area under the auspices of the American Field Service student exchange program. Speaking will be Pedro Coelho of Portugal who is a (tending Tryon High School and is a guest of the Tegwan Buckner family; Simon Dall of Denmark, guest of the Ted Owens family and Tamsin Fuad of Australia, guest of the Alan Rickman family. Simon and Tamsin are attending Polk Central High School. The AFS program has been active in Polk County since the first visiting student came to Polk Central in 1978. Tryon High School had its first visiting student in 1979. To date twenty local students have gone abroad and fifteen foreign students have visitedhere.
