Fire
The Landrum Volunteer Fire
Department responded to a fire
at Prince Oil Co. Monday about
12:10 pm. The potentially
dangerous fire was confined to
the office and did not spread to
the nearby storage tanks.

Columbus Seventh-day Adventist
elementary school will be held at
7 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 at the
Tryon Adventist Church.

Dr. Archie Ellis
The Tryon Rotary Club will
meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the
Hearthstone Inn. Guest speaker
will be the Rev. Richard A. Ellis,
D.D. His subject is “The Welfare
System.”
Dr. Ellis was born in Barnwell
County, South Carolina in 1916.
He was educated at Dunbarton
High School; Furman
University; Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary; Union
Seminary of Columbia Univ.,
Princeton University an
received his Doctor of Divini y
degree from Furman University
in 1953. ,

96th Commencement Exercise on
Monday morning, May 10. Gov.
James B. Hunt gave the
Commencement Address. Among
the graduates was William
Austin McFarland, Jr. of
Columbus who received his Juris
Doctor.
Jazz Concert
Thurs. At ICC
There will be a Jazz Concert
Thursday at 8 p.m. at the
amphitheater at Isothermal
Community College in Spindale.
Songs will be from the Big Band
Era: "I've Got You On A String,”
“Mood Indigo", “In TheMood”,
etc. There will be plenty of seats
for everyone and there is no
admission.
