"The landfill is inspected rou tinely." Fields said, by state officers in the Solid and Hazardous Waste Department of the N.C. Division of Health, Environment and Natural Resources "We had our last inspection three weeks ago and got a clean bill of health." Fields said Members of SWAB had complained to the county, and to Fields, that trash from out of the county, and out of the state, was being dumped in Polk County Their complaints also included charges that tires were not being cut in half, as is required, that trucks hauling trash were not covered and trash was blowing out onto Polk County roadsides, and that the landfill staffing was such that often only one worker was on duty, and at times no one is on duty. ‘‘I’m not going to debate all those issues with them."
