Lifts Stay In
Red Fox Proceedings
Word has been received by the
interim board of directors of the
proposed new The Club at Red
Fox that the stay of bankruptcy
proceedings against the defunct
Red Fox Ltd . has been lifted as
of January 3rd.
This information was
confirmed by Linda Simpson.
Bankruptcy Administrator for
the U.S Bankruptcy Court of the
Western District of North
Carolina.
According to Lawrence Heath,
an interim director of the
proposed club ond chairman of
its acquisition committee. ‘ This
means that the first mortgage
holder. N C. Federal Savings and
Loan Ass'n . can now foreclose on
the present owner. Red Fox Ltd.,
for the properties including the
championship golf course and
about 100 homesites."
"We expect that it will be
offered for sale very shortly by
the Savings and Loan We also
have information that they will
not underwrite the operation of
the club." Heath added
The interim board of the
proposed new club is making a
concerted effort to secure 150
memberships to buy the
properties and convert them to a
member-owned club
Charier memberships are
$5,300 with no initiation fee and
must be in the hands of the
acquisition committee by today
(Monday), according to William

Health Director
Responds To SWAB
Rulherford-Polk-McDowell
District Health Department
Director Clifford Fields said
Friday the Polk County landfill is
being operated with "a clean bill
of health "
Fields was responding to
criticism leveled at his
department's operation of the
landfill by members of the
recently disbanded Polk County
Solid Waste Advisory Board
(SWAB).
"The landfill is inspected rou
tinely." Fields said, by state
officers in the Solid and
Hazardous Waste Department of
the N.C. Division of Health,
Environment and Natural
Resources
"We had our last inspection
three weeks ago and got a clean
bill of health." Fields said
Members of SWAB had
complained to the county, and to
Fields, that trash from out of the
county, and out of the state, was
being dumped in Polk County
Their complaints also included
charges that tires were not being
cut in half, as is required, that
trucks hauling trash were not
covered and trash was blowing
out onto Polk County roadsides,
and that the landfill staffing was
such that often only one worker
was on duty, and at times no one
is on duty.

Elections, reported Friday that
the Election Board office in
Columbus is open from 8:30 to 1
and 1:30 to 5 every Monday.
Wednesday and Friday
Candidates who are interested in
filing for local offices have until
Monday. Feb. Sth at 12 noon.
Mrs. Edwards reported that
two candidates have filed.
Democrat Judy Arledge has filed
for re-election as Clerk of Court
and Boyce Carswell. Democrat
has filed for re-election as
Sheriff.
No Ruling Yet In
Columbus Rezoning
Superior Court Judge Hollis M
Owens Jr. on Friday gave the
plaintiffs in the zoning dispute
with the Town of Columbus ten
days to file a written brief in the
case.
He made no ruling on a motion
to dismiss the case made by
Columbus Town Attorney Chris
Callahan
The suit, brought by three
residents of the Beechwood
subdivision on Hwy 108. claims
that the town acted illegally in
rezoning last July a 4 9 acre tract
on Hwy 108 which adjoins the
Beechwood subdivision
The land, owned by the estate
of Pauline M Cowan, was
rezoned to Highway Commercial
District (HO from Community
Residential — Medium Density
Residential District (R-2). after
