Head Game Officer
Wildlife Master Officer John
Blanton, 40, recently has been
promoted by the North Carolina
Wildlife Resources Commission
to the rank of sergeant and has
been assigned to Henderson
County.
Sergeant Blanton will be
responsible for coordinating the
enforcement of game. fish, and
boat laws in Transyvlania.
Hendrson and Polk counties.
A native of Columbus. Blanton
graduated from Polk Central
High School in 1967. He joined the
N.C. Wildlife Resources
Commission in 1977 and has been
stationed in Lawndale in
Cleveland County prior to his
promotion and transfer to
Henderson County.
"We’re pleased to make this
appointment," said Colonel W. H.
Ragland of the Wildlife
Commission’s Division of
Enforcement. "John Blanton is
an excellent wildlife officer, and
we’re sure he will do a fine job in
his new role."
Sergeant Blanton will live in
Hendersonville.

Splawn Announces
For Polk Sheriff
H Don Splawn of Peniel Road
in Columbus filed Monday
morning his candidacy for the
Democratic nomination for
Sheriff of Polk County
Splawn, a wholesale distributor
and supplier with Biltmore
Dairies for 23 yrs., is married to
the former Hazel McIntyre. They
have two children
The Splawns are members of
Peniel Baptist Church. He serves
as a member of the Polk County
Rescue Squad and he served two
years in the U.S. Army.
Splawn was the chief jailer
with the Polk County Sheriff’s
Department from 1982-88.
He is presently employed with
Freeman-Wood Construction of
Greenville.
