To Address
Thermal Belt Rotary
Susi Fruchtman will give a
lecture and slide presentation
entitled "Hooked on
Horticulture" to the members
and guests of the Thermal Belt
Rotary Club on Monday. January
15th at 6 p m. al the Western
Steer Restaurant in Columbus
Mrs. Fruchtman will also be
giving a plant I D. contest with
the sample plants being given as
prizes
Thermal Belt Rotary meets
every Monday at 6 p m. at the
Western Steer.
Smothers Named
Head Coach
The Rutherford County New
reported that Bill Smothers,
former defensive coach for East
Rutherford High School has been
named head football coach of the
Cavaliers.
Smothers. 34, who has been the
defensive coach for the past three
years, fills the vacancy of former
head coach David Smith who
resigned after six years at the
helm
He came to East Rutherford
four years ago after spending
four years as a coach at Polk
Central and one year at
Edneyville. He is a graduate of
the University of South Carolina
at Spartanburg He and his
family live in Ellenboro
Coach Smothers is a graduate
of Polk Central High Schhol and
the son of Mr and Mrs. Gil
Smothers of Green Creek
Missing
Alma M. Lee, 25. has been
missing since Tuesday at 6 a m.
Emergency Management
Director Jim Cochran said that
she reportedly walked away from
Twin Lanes wearing a pink night
gown and was barefooted. Later
she was reported to be wearing a
blue sweater and jeans, but was
still barefooted. She worked at
the Polk County Sheltered
Workshop in Columbus, and is a
1981 graduate of Polk Central
Mr. Cochran said that from 30
to 40 people had been searching
for her This included firemen,
rescue squad members, law
enforcement officers.
Mr. Cochran said that Ms. Lee
was a white female. 5'8” tall and
weighed about 155 lbs She had
dark curly shoulder length hair
She still had not been located

Singing Sunday
There will be a singing Sunday
at 6 p.m al Midway Baptist
Church with a covered dish
supper The Reflections (Wesley
and Sheila Price) of Franklin will
be present The pastor, the Rev

attend.
Post Office Closed
The Post. Office will be closed
Monday for Martin Luther King
Day.
No mail will be delivered on
routes but will be placed in boxes.
90th Birthday
The family of Mrs. Stanislas
Czwertynski will be gathering in
Tryon today for a week-end
celebration of her 90th birthday
She has 4 children. 16
grandchildren and 49 great-
grandchildren but there will be
other close relatives also — 62 in
all They have taken the whole of
Pine Crest Inn which will be the
center of activities.
One of her grandson’s, here
from Taos. New Mexico will
have some of his paintings on
display at the Inn where they can
be seen over the weekend He
recently travelled to Europe with
R C. Gorman who is an old friend
of his
Mrs Czetwertynski has been
living in Tryon since 1944
and has a real love for Tryon and
so many of its people She is still
very active in the community and
one of the top bridge players

that two more had filed for local
office Wednesday. Georgia Pack
(Mrs Ronnie), present chairman
of the Polk County School Board,
filed for re-election from Tryon
Township and Ken Faulkner,
present member of the Polk
County Board of Commissioners
filed for re-election subject to the
Republican Primary
