First Reading
Not The Last
Polk County Manager Steven
D Wyatt responded this week to
criticism leveled at the county
administration by members of
the Taxpayers Association of
Polk County
During their recent
membership meeting,
association members reported
that the county commissioners
passed the first reading of a solid
waste ordinance "that they (the
commissioners) had not
previously had time to read "
Wyatt said by approving the
ordinance on a first reading, the
county administration is putting
the public on notice that this
ordinance is up for serious
consideration
"The ordinance is on file at the
county offices and public
comment is welcome." Wyatt
said He said citizens are
encouraged to stop by and read
the ordinance, or buy a copy
"This has not been passed into
law " Waytt said “There will be
a month s worth of study done "

That is not to sav we agree or
disagree with the Taxpayers
Association report It is to say
that the source of a report on
political matters should be made
clear
If the staff of the Bulletin
reports a story, we will stand
behind it. If the staff has not
written the report, we want you to
know who has
Many charitable and civic
organizations provide the
Bulletin with reports of their
activities These arc often tagged
at the end with the byline.
"Reporter." to let you know that
organization has provided the
story and not a Bulletin staff
writer
However, due to the political
nature of the taxpayers
association meetings, and the
subjects they tackle, these
reports and any others like them
will from now on be presented as
"communications" of opinion, so
as not to be confused with news
reports of the Bulletin
We are happy to have people
succinctly express their ideas
and opinions and make fair
comment about the way the
