He is a 1950 graduate of Tryot
High school and College of the
Desert. 29 Palms. Calif., and
Chaffey College. Alta Loma.
Calif He earned an A.A degree
in Business Administration
He served from 1950 to 1971 in
the U.S. Air Force reaching the
rank of Chief Master Sergeant
IE-91. During this time he served
in Korean and Vietnam Wars He
received numerous decorations
and commendations including
the Bronze Star in Vietnam and
the Meritorious Service Medal
upon his retirement from Travis
A.F. Base His last assignment
was superintendent of the largest
field maintenance unit in the Air
Force which is responsible for all
heavy maintenance designed and
transit aircraft
For the last eleven years he has
been employed as a shift
supervisor at Barnet Southern
He and his wife. Dorothy have
been married 38 years They
have 3 children. Two are adopted.

Joan Nash Files
For Commissioner
Joan L Nash of Laurel Ridge
Road in Columbus Township has
filed as a Republican candidate
for the office of Polk County
Commissioner
Since 1980, Mrs. Nash has been
Community Schools Director for
the Polk County Schools She
edits "Polk Sallet." a tabloid
publication mailed to all county
residents, directs a volunteer
program, and coordinates
programs for students and adults
involving the extended use of
school facilities.
A native of Illinois. Mrs. Nash
graduated with honors from
Beloit College in Wisconsin in
1972. along with her oldest
daughter. She was a graduate
student at the University of Iowa
for five years, where she earned
an M A. degree in 1973 and taught
French for three years She was
admitted to the University of
Iowa Collge of Law in 1976, but
married John Nash and moved
with him to Polk County in 1978
She is the daughter of the late Dr.
Jules Le Grand, who moved here
the same year.
Mrs Nash has taken leadership
roles in many community
organizations during the past
twelve years. She has been both
local and regional crusade
chairman for the American
Cancer Society and was president
of the Tryon-Polk County
Republican Women. She served
on the board of directors of the
Polk County Department of
Social Services from 1981-84 and
