Want To Neogitate
The Columbus Fire
Department would like to build a
new firehouse on what is now
school property along Old Prison
Camp Road, in front of the

told the school board Monday.
"We want to negotiate with
you. if you have any interest in
selling,” Tennant told the board

Tennant said the fire
department needs new. larger
quarters to house the 3,000-gallon
water tanker it plans to buy The
new equipment will be needed
once Tryon Estates is built.
The building the firemen
envision will have five bays and a
meeting room and will fit nicely
on Old Prison Camp Road, he
said
"We want to be close in to
town." he said
Superintendent Dr. James F
Causby said he sees no school
need for the property He said if
the board wanted to sell it could
decalre the property 'surplus'
and then sell it to the highest
bidder
However, it me ooaro wanteo
to ensure the property goes to the
fire department, it could ask its
state representatives to enact
special legislation allowing a
closed sale
Board of Education member
Ralph H Arledge said he
supported the idea
“I am very interested in seeing
what we can do," Arledge said
