Marjorie won the girls 8-9 age group. She tied for first with 15 free throws out of 25 and then won the title in two shoo toffs. Adam wen the boys 10-11 age group shooting 22 out of 25 free throws. They will compete in the Southeast Regional on March 17th at Valdosta College in Val dosta. Ga. against the winners from Mississippi, Alabama. Florida, S.C. and Georgia. Ash Wednesday At Good Shepherd Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Tryon will usher in the penitential Lenten Season with a special service on Ash Wednesday. February 28. at 7:30 p m. It will be a celebration of Holy Communion with the Imposition of Ashes Ashes are a sign both of penitence and of human mortality: "Remember, 0 Man, that thou art dust, and to dust thou shall return." All are invited to share in this service beginning the forty days of Lent. Community Cash Closes Its Doors The Community Cash grocery store in Tryon Plaza will close its doors for the last time at 6 p m. today, becoming the second major tenant of the shopping center to close this month. Super 10 closed Feb. 15. Bobby Turner, manager of the Tryon Community Cash, said all but one of the approximately 20 employees at his store was being placed elsewhere with Community Cash, or had found other work. Barry Garrett, a principal with Garrett & Garrett of Fountain Inn. S.C.. owners of the Tryon Plaza, said Monday that he hoped to find another grocery for Tryon Plaza. "It takes a little while to come up with that kind of tenant," he said Lenten Services Trinity Lutheran Church, currently holding services in the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Hwy. 108 in Lynn, will hold their mid week Lenten services each Thursday evening at 7 p m . according to the pastor, the Rev Ray Weber. All are welcome. During the season of Lent, the regular Wednesday evening Bible Class, which was conducted at the Weber residence, will not be held, the Lenten serices replacing this study time The regular Wednesday evening Bible classes will resume after Easter. New Pastor Called in Landrum The Rev. Jerry Glenn Long accepted the call to become the new pastor at First Baptist Church of Landrum Sunday After hearing the Rev. Long preach about prayer, the congregation voted to offer the Rev. Long the pastorate The Rev. Long, 39, is currently the associate pastor of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia. S. C When he starts March 26. he will be replacing the interim minister, the Rev. James R Bruce The Rev. Bruce has filled in since September, when the Rev. Ronald C. Sumners left after five years to accept a call with a church in Whiteville, N. C. The Rev Long graduated from Greenville High School and Clemson University. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. TX He and his wife. Lynne, have two daughters. Rebecca, 12. and Amy. 11. Mr and Mrs. Edward Delehanty have returned from Atlanta having attended a baby shower for their daughter Robin Fisher, and a Cerebral Palsy banquet where their son-in-law. Andrew S. Fisher, was receipienl of the Independent of Spirit and Life Award. Mr. Fisher is Vice President/General Manager of WSB-TV in Atlanta.
