New Grocer
May Arrive
An independent grocer is
interested in the Tryon Plaza
space vacated by the closing of
Community Cash. Community
Cash president Rick Littlejohn
said Tuesday.
Littlejohn said nothing is firm
yet, but that an independent
grocer is interested in subleasing
the space.
"We're very sorry to leave
Tryon." Littlejohn said "But the
store just has not done a
sufficient volume. We tried
several things to boost it up. They
helped some, but not enough.”
The Tryon Community Cash
store opened in 1982. and closed
Tuesday.
School Board
Meets Monday
The Polk County Board of
Education will begin the
executive session Monday at 6:30
p m. to discuss personnel and
property matters. There will be a
hearing on minority owned
construction bids at 7:30 pm
with the regular meeting to
follow.

at the commissioners room in the
courthouse annex.
Super Saturday
Contests
This year's Super Saturday will
offer three contests for children.
In keeping with Saint Patrick’s
Day, one will be a leprechaun
look-alike contest. There will be
three categories: the funniest;
the one who looks most like a
leprechaun (the greenest); and
the most original
Another category is the
storybook character puppet
contest. Contestants will create
puppets and prizes will be
awarded in these areas: the
puppet most like a storybook
character, the most original
puppet; and the funniest
storybook character puppet
Haul out your wagon and
decorate it for the third contest.
The three categories in this
contest are the most colorful, the
most humorous, and the most
wonderful wagon
All contestants will line up in
the Melrose Strut at the
beginning of Melrose Circle at
12:00 Judging will be done dur
ing the parade and prizes will be
awarded following the parade in
the Farwell gardens. Three
prizes will be awarded for each
contest Adults are welcome to
paint themselves green, show off
their Puppets, decorate their
wagons and join the Strut also;
but prizes will go to the kids. The
parade is always a Super
Saturday highlight and the most
fun is being in it Enter the
contests, march in the Melrose
Strut and maybe win a prize! —

70th Birthday
Ernest Phillips, a life-long
resident of the Pea Ridge
community will be honored with
a drop-in birthday celebration
given by his children on Sunday,
March 4 at Pea Ridge
Community Building from 2-4

Party Given For
Sara MacDonald
A party was given on Friday.
February 23, to honor Sara
MacDonald, who will be moving
to Florida after her marriage in
March to George Aid. The party
was given at The Meeting Place
at the close of the last class that
Mrs. MacDonald taught there for
the Polk County Campus of
Isothermal Community College.
