“African Adventure” At
Thermal Belt Rotary
Simon Thompson was born,
raised and educated in England.
He is a naturalist with a special
interest in research He works
with FENCE and recently acted
as a guide on a FENCE tour to
Africa. On Mon.. Mar. 12at6p m
he will give a slide and lecture
presentation about this trip to the
members and guests of the
Thermal Belt Rotary Club. Mr.
Thompson is currently planning
another nature expediture down
the Amazon River this fall.
The Thermal Belt Rotary Club
meets every Monday at 6 p.m. at
the Western Steer in Columbus.

Wolverines Beat
Blue Ridge 75-48
The Polk County Wolverines
won the first round of the 1-A
Basketball Sectional when they
defeated Blue Ridge 75-48
Wednesday night at Tuscola High
School The Wolverines were
never threatened as they led 20-11
at the first quarter, 38-24 at half
and 51-31 at the end of the third
quarter. Scoring in double
figures for the Wolverines were
Carlo Wilkins 16, B. G. Edwards
and Kevin Wood, 12 points each.
The Wolverines are now 21-5 for
the season while Blue Ridge
ended their season at 11-14. The
Wolverines play Cherokee Sat. at
8. The scoring was as follows:

Duke Power
To Break Ground
Duke Power Company will
break ground for its new Tryon
office building Thursday, March
15 at 10 a.m., Tryon manager
Dean Yancey has announced.
The public is invited to the
ceremony.
The new building is to be built
on the same property as the
existing Duke Power building at
the corner of School and Trade
streets.
The new building, however,
will be set back on the lot,
requiring the removal of two
existing builings, and will be
nestled into a wooded,
landscaped setting reached by a
curving driveway There will be
about 20 parking spaces.
The 3,500 square feet inside will
accomodate an appliance
showroom, business offices, a
community meeting room and
support facilities.
The exterior will be native
stone and rough-sawn wood The
architect for the project is
Holland Brady, A.I A. of Tryon,
and Daniel Owens Construction
will be the general contractor.
