Violate Dress Code
An annual rite of passage — the
dress code scuffle — popped up
like the buds on the dogwoods last
week at Polk Central High
School.
As the temperatures rose, a
couple of boys were led to wear
skirts to school, and several
others wore shorts, according to
Supt Dr. James F. Causby.
Both forms of attire are
prohibited under a school system
policy adopted last summer
"Everytime it gets hot. some
challenge the dress code."
Causby said.
He said that when students are
found in violation of the dress
code, they are asked to find a way
home to change their attire. If
they have no way home, they are
allowed to remain in school, but
are instructed not to break the
rules again.
The dress code, in effect for
students in grades 7 - 12. states
that a principal has the final word
on appropriate dress and can cite
any inappropriate dress.
Specifically outlawed are
sunglasses, headwear, tank
tops, shorts, clothes with
excessive holes or with exposed
midriff sections.
