Freezing temperatures may
have destoyred up to half of the
peach crop in Upstate counties,
where nearly a third of all peach
trees in South Carolina are
grown. There was damage in
Polk County, but we don’t have a
report on how extensive it was.

Benefit
A Sell-Out
The Fine Arts Center
announced Wednesday that the
TFAC benefit, “An Evening at
the Cafe des Beaux Arts” has
sold out — even the chairs.
While the Center is in the
unexpected position of having to
turn people away or place them
on a waiting list, a spokesperson
noted that, based on the evident
popularity of this event, any
similar program offered in the
future will be shown for two
nights.
An effort was made to schedule
an additional performance, but
key cast members had already
made other plans, so the ideas
was abandoned.
Charlie Cecil, Ticket chairman,
reminds all those who have
reserved tickets to pick them up
before the night of the
performance if at all possible. We
also request that cancellations
be called in as soon as they are
known, so that others may
purchase the seats. The box
office will continue to be open
mornings from 10 a.m. to noon for
picking up tickets. — Reporter

EMS Director Sees
Break-Even Future
Lisa Wilson believes Polk
County can break even on its
emergency medical service once
it takes the ambulance operation
over from St. Luke’s Hospital in
July.
She’s working on plans to bring
down the too long response times
now experienced by some remote
parts of Polk County, and to bring
up the fees charged to patients.
Wilson, 25, started Monday,
March 19th as the county's new
Emergency Medical Services
Director. Previously, she held the
same position at St. Luke’s
Hospital.
Breaking even is not something
St. Luke’s has been able to do
with its emergency medical
services (EMS), and the hospital
agreed to keep the service only
