Correction
In a story Friday about Lisa
Wilson. Polk County’s new
Director of Emergency Medical
Services, it was incorrectly
stated that the St. Luke’s
Hospital recently purchased an
ambulance.
In fact. Polk County purchases
all ambulances and leases them
to the hospital EMS service. In
July, under Wilson’s supervision,
the county will take over the
entire EMS operation.

Nodine Wins
Second SCAC Grant
Jane Allen Nodine, whose work
is showing currently at the
Upstairs, has won a second
Visual Arts Fellowship from the
South Carolina Arts Commission.
Nodine first won the prestigious
grant in 1981-82. She shares the
distinction of having won twice
with only two other artists —
embroiderer Lee Malerich and
painter and mixed media artist
Judy Jones, who had a duo show
at the Upstairs last year with
Scot Belville. The work which
won the grant for Nodine, the
"Aegis" series is included in the
Upstairs show.
Nodine is also a designer of
fashion jewelry. Through her
Spartanburg company.
Hardware, she has sold her
ethnic-inspired designs in the
major apparel markets for years,
according to a recent article in
the "Greenville News." Winning
the $7,500 grant will enable
Nodine to concentrate a specific
block of time exclusively on her
painting. "It's a shot in the arm,"
she said
The Upstairs is open from 2 to 4
Tuesday through Friday and
from noon til 4 on Satuday. The
current show features Nodine's
work along with recent pieces by
