means so many things: being
able to enjoy the beauty which
surrounds us. watching the trees
turn green, seeing the azaleas
bloom, hearing the birds sing,

for some, driving through the
countryside with the lop down
Nothing can spoil all of this more
than the sight of beer bottles,
hamburger wrappers, plastic
foam containers, and various
other sundry items tossed out of
car windows by the uncaring.

Long Family
The congregation of Landrum
First Baptist Church extends an
invitation to the community to
celebrate the installation of the
Rev. Jerry Long as our pastor on
April 1. at 7 p m. Following the
Pastor Installation, a reception
will be held in the Fellowship hall
to welcome the Long family to
Landrum.
Mr. Long was called by First
Baptist Church to be pastor on
February 25. He began his
ministry on March 26.
A native of Greenville. S.C..
Mr Long served as Associate
Pastor of Shandon Baptist
Church in Columbia, S C. at the
time of his call to Landrum He
had earlier served the Shandon
Church as Minister of Youth and
Recreation. Prior to his ministry
at Shandon, he was minister of
Youth and College in Monroe.

Library Hosting
Used Book Sale
Friends of the Polk County
Public Library are preparing for
a used book sale to be used May
11 and 12 on the grounds of the
library in Columbus Committees
have been appointed and are
already sorting and pricing
books. Bernie Harroun. Chair
person of the event, encourages
interested readers to attend. The
slogan for the sale is. he says.
"Any book you haven't read is a
new book." Barbara Brewer.
Library Director, adds. "Books
of all kinds will be on sale
Regardless of tastes, there will
be something for everyone "
Proceeds from the sale will be
used for various projects in
support of the library. —

Polk Wolverines
Beat Mitchell 12-2
The Polk County Wolverines
banged out 14 hits, including 6
home runs to defeat Mitchell 12 to
2 Tuesday afternoon at Harmon
Field. The Wolverines who are
now 3-0, play Chapman today at
Harmon Field.
Timmy McCurry went all the
way for the Wolverines and gave
up 1 hit as he struck out 10 He
also had 3 for 4 at the plate
including a home run. Other
leading hitters were Sean
Cunningham 2 for 3; Kevin
Fisher 2 for 3 (including a home
run). Ty Stott 2 for 3 (including a
home runi: Kelly Ruff 2 for 3
(including a home run) and Jason
Cumbie who also hit a home run.
