nuclear explosions, and that
three people were charged. U.S.
and British investigators worked
on the case for 18 months.
Lithuania's government back
ed down Wednesday on one of its
hottest points of conflict with the
Kremlin, a plan to establish its
own border guard, saying it
wanted to avoid clashes with
Soviet troops.

The redbuds, dogwoods,
azaleas and other spring
flowering plants have been
beautiful Everything seems to
be 2 to 3 weeks ahead of normal.
It is unusual to have the redbuds
and dogwoods in bloom at the
same time. Usually the redbuds
are gone before the dogwoods

Community Concert
The Spring Concert produced
annually by the Tryon
Community Chorus is not only an
attempt to provide a superior
musical offering for a
discriminating audience
This is a cooperative effort to
contribute to the financial
support for the Rotary
Scholarships Foundation, which
has benefited local high school
graduates for many years.
The 1989 awardees were Freda
Satterfield from Tryon High
School, David Seifert from
Landrum High School and
Andrew Lynch from Polk Central
High School.
Currently in rehearsal. The
Glory Days of Broadway,
includes in its cast six young men
and women from Polk County,
shown in the picture above:
Jason Parris,Marty Chlebewski,
Mary Jo Palumbo, Velva Brown
Katie Malone, and Keisha Parris.
Singers will still be welcomed

Tires Slashed
Last Friday night six cars (new
and used) on the Stott's Ford lot
had their tires slashed. The
Tryon Police Dept. is
investigating the incident.
