Officials, Residents Clash Over Sign Law There will be no sign ordinance in Columbus for at least another six months That was the majority decision of the Columbus Town Board of Commissioners Thursday night, and it was an unpopular one with the 15 people in attendance at their meeting. Although the area residents in attendance complained vehemently, the board members were unswayed "Town officials were elected to do that job. and it should be left up to them," Grover Hutcherson said. After the meeting, Mayor Paul Smith said. "Jesus Christ didn't please everybody and I'm not going to try.” The newest member of the board. Dr Thomas Bolling, had drawn up an ordinance and wanted the council to bring it to a public hearing in May. "You aksed me and Butch (Smith, town administrator) to draw up an ordinance," Bolling said. “We have done that It deserves to be discussed and then either voted up or down, not to be tabled forever and ever until it just dies, if that's what people have in mind.” The mayor called for a vote on Bolling's motion, and Ormand and Hutcherson voted it down. 2- 1 Ormand then made a motion asking Smith to draw up his own version of a sign ordinance for Continued On Back Page
