Schools Athletic
Plan Revised
The Athletic Plan for Polk
County Schools was revised
Monday to add women's and
men's soccer, restructure the
football teams and add five
coaching positions.
The revisions, recommended
by Superintendent Dr James
Causby and approved
unanimously by the board of
education, call for adding
women's soccer in the spring and
men's soccer in the fall. In
addition the football program will
be restructured into varsity for
grades 9—12, with most players
in grades 11 and 12, junior varsity
for grades 9 and 10, and middle
school for grades 7-8
The past football structure
was different than most other
schools’ football programs and.
therefore, limited the amount of
teams against which the junior
high and middle school teams
could play, Dr. Causby
explained. The new structure will
allow a full schedule and
encourage the lower grade
students to compete, he said.
The revisions will require the
addition of a women's soccer
coach, a men’s soccer coach, a
men's in-door track coach and
two middle school football
coaches School board vice
chairman Terry Edwards asked
if there were teachers to fill these
positions. Coaching possibilities
will be considered as the
administration looks for new
teachers, Dr Causby said
The approved revisions
