Carswell has no Republican opposition in the fall and is almost a shoe-in for his fifth four-year term. The Republican nominees for the Board of Commissioners are not so lucky They have won the right to ran a campaign for the general election in November against three Democratic party nominees: incumbent Rachel Ramsey, past commissioner Carson Deck, and newcomer Sue Cochran. Only 32 votes separated the top vote getter from the low vote getter in the Republican primary for Board of Commissioners. Tim McCormack of Green Creek was the top vote-getter with 516, winning the Coopers Gap and Green Creek No. 9 precincts. Incumbent Ken Faulkner was next with 506 votes, winning the Tryon No 3, White Oak, Columbus No 8 and Green Creek No 10 precincts. Bill Crowell finished third, edging out Joan Nash for the 1st of three nominations by eight votes.
