Hudson, a graduate of Polk
Central High School, is married
to the former Becky McFarland.
He has a master’s degree in
education from Western Carolina
University and taught and
coached for 12 years in the
Transylvania School system.
He joined A. L. Williams, a
national insurance company, in
1982 and was promoted to
regional vice president in 1985.
"One of the things I am
concentrating on," Hudson told
the Asheville Citizen Thursday,
"is the communication between
the board, teachers,
administration and
superintendent. I don’t think the
school board is getting all the
information they need to make a
decision.
"To me. the present board
doesn’t really have any direction.
We are in the 1990s, but I don't see
anything really moving
forward.”
If there is no primary run-off,
Hudson will run for office against
the Republicans in November.
Vernon Gardner, the man
Hudson edged out for the
nomination, said Thursday he
was unsure if he would call for a
run-off.
