offered $52 million for the
network and retreat property

Newman Graduates Honor Graduates
On May 5, James H. Newman
graduated Magna Cum Laude
from East Carolina University
with a Bachelor of Science degree
in Industrial Technology,
concentrating in electronics and
with an emphasis in
manufacturing. While attending
East Carolina, Mr. Newman has
been a full-time employee of the
I. Dupont Company in Kinston,
N. C. Mr. Newman was a
member of Phi Sigma Pi
National Honor Fraternity, Phi
Kappa Phi Honor Society,
Epsilon Pi Tau International
Honor Fraternity for Education
in Technology, and The ECU
Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa
Honor Society. He was also the
recipient of several scholarships
and awards, including
Outstanding Senior Award for the
Department of Manufacturing/
School of Industry and
Technology. While a member of
the various organizations. Mr
Newman was an active
participant in their fund-raising
efforts and helped raise funds for
United Cerebral Palsy, the
American Cancer Society and
many others.
Mr. Newman is married to the
former Phyllis D. Walker. The
couple reside in Ayden, N.C.,
and have two children, Seth o’
and Kacie 3. Mrs. Newman is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Truitt
Walker of Sandy Plains.

Monday, June 4th, 1990 Die
Tryon Rotary Clubs Rural-Urban
Committee will conduct an
interesting tour of prominent
area establishments.
Vans will load at the Vineyard
parking lot at 10 a m. for a visit to
the Mize Nursery and the
Splawns Egg Production Plant.
Next will be an indoor Picnic
Lunch at Green Creek
Elementary School. The return
trip features a nice tour of the
Kangaroo Caddy factory at
Columbus. The Vans arrive and
the tour ends at 3 p.m. back at the
Vineyard.
Reservations are required for
the tour. See or phone Bill

Those members not taking the
trip can make up at the Vineyard
at noon that Monday. However,

representative for Jamie Clarke
will be in the Polk County
Commissioners office in
Columbus from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Tuesday, June 5th
From 11 a m to noon. Padgett
will be at the Meeting Place in
Tryon.
