Chosen for the Allstar team were: Jeremiah Carswell, Jeremy Crocker, Chad Fisher, Jason Fisher, Matt Ingraham, Travis Lindsey, Penny Lindsey, Bobby Miller, Brian Phillips and Wesley Wolfe. New Heart Assn. Director John M. “Jack" Leon, a Tryon- area resident since 1975, was named a director of the Polk County Unit of the American Heart Association by the Board of Directors at its June meeting. Chairman of the Golf Committee of the Red Fox Country Club, Mr. Leon will assist Michael McCue, chairman of the Heart Association’s annual golf tournament, operate the Association’s Heart-Healthy Tournament for men there on Oct. 29. A philosophy and math major and graduate from Trinity College in 1938, Mr. Leon was first employed in the textile business in New York City. He entered the Horse Cavalry of the US Army in WWII, actually reporting for duty mounted on horseback. The Green Creek Athletics, sponsored by the Green Creek Ruritan, won the League Championship. The Sunny View Cardinals, sponsored by Burgess Refuse, were second. Other sponsored teams included the Braves sponsored by Bomar Industries. The 1990 Allstars are: John Maddox, Eric Lookadoo, Jason Kilgore, Todd Moore, Kip Stokes. Alan Edwards, David Eckert, Chad Rickman, Travis Lowe, Shannon Randolph, Brian Grotchowski and Jerry Lockhart. Player of the Year awards went to Allstars Larry Fagan and Kelly Ruff. Managing the Allstar team this year is Tom Horne. Their first game was Monday evening at Harmon Field against Rutherfordton.
