Wyatt, the county manager for
the last three years, is leaving the
county next week to take a job as
assistant county manager of
Catawba County.

interesting portrait of Wyatt and
Polk County Solid Waste
Manager David Draughn, who is
also leaving the county for
another job soon. Both portraits
are in an ad in today's
newspaper.
Lucy Christopher, postmistress
of Lynn Post Office, steps lightly
around her shop these days.

Show Open Aug. 5
Eleven artists will be featured
in the Spartanburg Artists’ Guild
New Member Show, which opens
Sunday, August 5, at the
Spartanburg Arts Center.
A reception will be held from 2
to 5 p.m. that day. It is free and
ooen to the public.
New members include Irma P.
Webb of Saluda.
The Shady Grove Band
To Enliven
Summer Social
Trust the Fine Arts Center to
come up with an innovative
bluegrass band to round off the
day-long activities nostagically
called the Summer Social. On
Saturday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m.
TFAC will present the energetic
“Shady Grove Band” in Sassoon
Park
Years ago a Summer Social
would have concluded with folks
gathered ’round the village
green to listen to musicians
playing soothing Strauss
melodies or rousing Sousa
marches in a Victorian
bandstand, ladies' parasols
bobbing to the lilt of the tunes.
Well, in 1990 the conviviality's the
same but you can leave your
celluloid collars, straw
skimmers, layered petticoats and
feather fans in the attic steamer
trunk. Just slip on your favorite
shorts and T shirt and relax to the
rhythms of the Shady Grove

Vining Grandchildren
Provide Sweet Poem
The grandchildren of Seth and
Bos Vining presented their
grandparents a sentimental —
and sweet — retirement gift
recently.
Using candy to fill in the gaps,
they wrote a poem honoring their
grandparents upon retirement as
active owners and operators of
the Tryon Daily Bulletin
Seth Vining retired April 27
Tomorrow will be Bos Vining's
last day on the job
Bos Vining started work in 1970
parttime, two days a week, and
most recently has been the
fulltime bookkeeper for the
paper in addition to handling
numerous other duties
The Bulletin will be closed from
noon to 1 p.m. Friday so the staff
can treat Mrs Vining to lunch

Cade, at Mary Black Memorial
Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds.

In Who’s Who
Warren Chad Jones, son of
Francis and Ellen Jones has been
selected to be in the 24th annual
edition of Who’s Who Among
American High School students
for the academic year 1989-90.
Chad is the grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. J. M Brown and Mr. and
Mrs. Dean Jones all of Landrum
Chad will be entering the 10th
grade at Landrum High School
where he has been active in band
and sports for the past 3 years
The Volleyball session will
begin Monday, July 30, 9 a m to2
p.m at Polk Central High School
