May 1991 Opening
For Tryon Estates
Moving vans should start
pulling up to Tryon Estates by
May 1991.
That’s the new move-in date for
the retirement village under
construction in Columbus,
officers of ACTS, the parents
company, announced last week at
an update meeting for future
residents.
Construction on the first phase
of the complex should begin
Friday, said Bob Bowman,
project manager.
The first phase will include 142
apartments, of which 120 are
already leased. Also included is a
42,000 square foot dining,
recreation and activity building,
and a 104-bed medical facility.
When Phase II is completed,
Tryon Estates will have over
500,000 square feet under roof,
Bowman said. There will be 284
apartments.
In another major
announcement made during the
update meeting, ACTS officials
disclosed that their construction
financing is in place with First
Union National Bank. The project
will cost over $40 million, he said.
Arranging the financing was
slower than expected, Bowman
said, due to the tightness of credit
in the wake of the savings and
loan crisis. That and some bad
weather has caused construction
delays. A move-in date of
December 1990 was originally
forecast.
Bowman said Tryon Estates,
