The deadline for applications for the job of Polk County Manager was Friday. Interim manager Glenn Rhodes was expected to update the Polk County Board of Commissioners on the application process tonight when the board meets at 7:30. The Spartanburg NAACP filed a complaint Thursday with the FBI in Washington, D. C. condemning the handling of an investigation into claims of illegal wiretapping at the Landrum Police Department. The FBI concluded that no federal law was violated in the the wiretapping incident. “We feel a thorough, unbiased, professional FBI investigation will reveal that Police Chief Edwards and other policemen had their conversations recorded without their knowledge by an electronic, hidden device, which is illegal, and it is not being done by other police departments in our state under the guise of monitoring emergency calls," said Roy Henderson, president of the Spartanburg NAACP. “(We) are appealing to the FBI Continued On Back Paiw Precincts Combined The Polk County Board of Elections has combined Precincts No. 9 and No. 10. Therefore a meeting of Democratic precinct members is necessary to discuss reorganization of the new combined precinct to be called No. 9 Green Creek. Smith’s Soccer A Smash Overseas Kara Smith earned most valuable honors in a soccer tournament in Denmark. She is the daughter of Steve and Susan Smith and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guynell Smith of Tryon. Smith's success wasn’t limited to just making Team U.S.A. She was voted most valuable player by her teammates and a coach offered her a chance to play professional women’s soccer when she graduates from college. For now she is happy just thinking about her recent accomplishments and her 31 day tour of Scandinavia. She graduated from Dorman High School and will play soccer at the College of Charleston this year. Smith tried out for Team U S.A in Greenville. Riddle will speak about the many reptiles and other “crawly creatures" of Polk County. Since he is not adverse to having these fellows around, he might bring some of them along. Western Carolina Women’s Golf On June 19th Anne McIntyre of Red Fox won 2nd low gross in the 4th Flight at Green Valley Country Club. in the Western Carolinas Tournament at Hendersonville Country Club on July 17th Anne McIntyre won 2nd low net in the 4th Flight.
