By Friday at 7 a.m., .13 inches of rain had fallen. The Polk County tax collectors are waiting for the supplemental tax bill forms to arrive before they send out this year’s second tax notices. You may recall that the Board of Education took the Board of Commissioners to court citing a lack of adequate funding. A jury of 12 Polk taxpayers agreed with the school board. That’s why county taxpayers will be receiving a second tax bill this year. And on it will be printed: “1990 Supplemental Tax Bill, as mandated by the Superior Court.’’ That message was decided upon last week on a motion by commissioner Henry Huntsinger, supported by Rachel Ramsey and Ken Faulkner. They want to be sure everyone knows that they didn’t support the tax increase for schools. Board members Jeannie Martin and John Edwards voted against adding the message to the tax bills. However, during the budget process they didn’t necessarily suport tax increases, either. They argued that the Continued On Back Pace Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Albert G. Gosnell of Thompson Rd., Saluda, announce the engagement of their daughter, Teresa Lynn Gosnell to Roger Wayne Roberts of Bill Collins Rd., Mill Spring. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger B. Roberts of Bill Collins Rd. in Mill Spring. The bride-elect was graduated from East Henderson High School in 1985 and is employed at Autumn Care of Saluda as a C.N.A. The bridegroom-elect is also employed at Autumn Care of Saluda in Housekeeping. The wedding will be held September 8, 1990 at 4 p.m. at Autumn Care of Saluda, Eseola Circle in Saluda. Meet Tuesday The Tryon Lions Club will meet Tuesday, August 14 at 7 p.m. at the Western Steer. District Governor Bill Terrell, 31A will visit. Compete At National Rifle Matches Robin McCall and Brent Edwards have returned from Camp Perry, Ohio where they competed in the 1990 National Rifle Marches. Robin fired the individual high score in the Whistler Boy Match pitting 2-shooter teams from around the country. As well as shooting with Robin on the North Carolina Whistler Boy Team. Brent shot consistently high scores all week, bringing home a considerable number of National Rifle Association award points. Robin and Brent are members of the Polk County Junior Gun Club. Brent is a rising senior at Tryon High School and Robin will be a freshman at Ohio State University. Jennifer Thompson At Thermal Belt Rotary Jennifer Thompson will be the guest speaker at the August 13th meeting of the Thermal Belt Rotary Club. Ms. Thompson recently returned from a five week trip to Pirmasens, Germany as a Rotary Exchange Student. She will share with the group some of her wonderful experiences there. Thermal Belt Rotary meets at the Western Steer in Columbus. The program will follow dinner at 6 p.m. and everyone is invited. — Reporter Engaged Jerry and Mohna Huffman of Colorado Springs, Colorado announce the engagement of their daughter, Gayle Marie, to Barry Dean Bowyer, son of Finch Bowyer, Jr. of Colorado Springs and Marlene Bowyer of Tryon. A December 29 wedding at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs is planned The bride-elect graduated from Colorado Springs Christian School. She attends the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where she is pursuing her degree in Psychology. She is employed by Redeemer Lutheran Child Care Center. the bridegroom-elect graduated from Falcon High School (Colorado Springs), served in the United States Marine Corps, and attends the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where he is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Sociology. He is employed by the UCCS Department of Public Safety.
