Awards Contracts
The Tryon Board of Commis
sioners awarded several
contracts for construction work
and new’ equipment at their
meeting Monday night.
In an unusual move, the board
went into executive session with
about a dozen people at the
request of town resident, George
Bridges.
The closed session was called
under a provision of the open
meetings law that allows for
private meetings to discuss
personnel matters. No action was
taken.
In another unusual aspect of
the meeting, former Town
Manager Barry G. Richards
attended as a private citizen.
Although the board accepted
his resignation July 30 after a
long executive session, Richards
offered his advice and comments
on nearly every agenda item the
board considered Monday night.
Acting Town Manager
Clarence Henson guided the
board through an otherwise
routine session of handling town
business. Commissioner Warren
Carson was absent.
* The board members heard a
request for money from Joey
Couch, a 15-year-old Boy Scout.
Couch told the board that for his
Eagle Scout project, he intends to
install “cat’s eye” reflectors in
the center of town roads in front
of all 200 water hydrants and to
update town maps to show' all
hydrants.
The board, however, asked
