N.C. on August 25 to benefit Robbie Blackwell, a 6 year-old Columbus boy who has been undergoing extensive surgery since being struck by a car last October 31. The full scale concert will feature Carey Upton and the Rockland Tramps, a local band on their way to the top. The group will perform original music as well as hits by such artists as Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Mellencamp and Linda Ronstadt. The concert will be held in the old Stearns gymnasnium beginning at 8 p.m. Opening the show will be Lazy Boy and the Recliners, a three piece band from Columbus. Bring lawn chairs to sit on the gym floor or outside. Seating will also be available on the WEDNESDAY. AUGUST 15, 1990 bleachers. All proceeds will go to Robbie Blackwell. In the photo are (1. to r.) Read The Bulletin I' or Local News 20C Per Coin Tryon Council Awards Contracts The Tryon Board of Commis sioners awarded several contracts for construction work and new’ equipment at their meeting Monday night. In an unusual move, the board went into executive session with about a dozen people at the request of town resident, George Bridges. The closed session was called under a provision of the open meetings law that allows for private meetings to discuss personnel matters. No action was taken. In another unusual aspect of the meeting, former Town Manager Barry G. Richards attended as a private citizen. Although the board accepted his resignation July 30 after a long executive session, Richards offered his advice and comments on nearly every agenda item the board considered Monday night. Acting Town Manager Clarence Henson guided the board through an otherwise routine session of handling town business. Commissioner Warren Carson was absent. * The board members heard a request for money from Joey Couch, a 15-year-old Boy Scout. Couch told the board that for his Eagle Scout project, he intends to install “cat’s eye” reflectors in the center of town roads in front of all 200 water hydrants and to update town maps to show' all hydrants.
