He refused to Continued On Back Page Spartanburg Methodist Signs Ty Stott Ty Stott signed a grant and aid agreement to play baseball for Spartanburg Methodist College this. week. Polk County Schools athletic director Geoff Tennant said he believes it was Stott’s hitting that caught the attention of Spartanburg Methodist Coach Lon Joyce. Polk baseball coach Richard Gaddy said Stott hit around .500 all four years of playing baseball in Polk County. Gaddy said Stott hit seven homeruns last year, and only struck out once or twice all year long. Stott played first base and pitched and made no defensive errors, Gaddy said. “Ty is a particularly adept hitter,” Tennant said.“I believe Joyce was very happy to sign him and expects him to make a contribution.” On hand for the signing ceremony were Ty with his parents, James and Peggy Stott, Wolverine baseball coach Jeff Wilson, SMC Coach Lon Joyce, and Tennant.
