(Education In Polk County Is Crucial) will present Mr. Clyde Ray from Western North Carolina Tomorrow (WNCT) as its guest speaker Monday night. E.P.I.C. is holding its first, organizational meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at Isothermal Community College. Ray's topic will be, "A Vision for Quality Education in Polk County." Western North Carolina Tomorrow is a long-range regional planning committee made up of directors from North Carolina’s 17 westernmost counties. Its main focus is economic development, natural resources and pride in the region. The board of commissioners in each county appoints one director and the directors then elect another member from each county. Jane Culberson is Polk County’s appointee, and Paul Culberson is the elected director. Clyde Ray has for the past 11 years been the senior research associate on the WNCT staff, which is based at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee. Ray works directly with WNCT’s Task Force on Education and the Pride in the Region Committee. Ray has been a classroom teacher in Tennessee, Virginia and Haywood County and served on the school board in Haywood as well. Declaring the day “Charles and Betty Rinehart Day," the church hosted a special celebration of the Rinehart’s 40th anniversary in the ministry. The Rev. and Mrs. Rinehart were presented letters of congratulations and appreciation from members of the various churches they have pastored. S.C.) at Brushy Creek Recreational Park on Tuesday evening, Sept. 4 after a courageous effort against a 3-A class school. Scores ranged from 0-6 to 3-6 in singles and doubles matches. Members of the Landrum Girls varsity tennis team are Carolina Greene (Sr.), Denise Gosnell (Sr.), Julie Prince (Jr.). Beth Nichols (F), Mandy Nichols (F), Rebecca Pryor (F).
