It was rainy Saturday - most
everyone’s DAY OFF. If you
need a little cheering up, now that
it’s sunny outside and you’re
back at work, here’s a few
amusing thoughts:
These are some actual church
bulletin announcements,
submitted to us by a reader:
“This afternoon there will be a
meeting in the south and north
ends of the church. Children will
be baptized at both ends.
Thursday at 5 p.m., there will
be a meeting of the Little Mothers
Club. All those wishing to
become little mothers, please
meet the minister in his study.
This being Easter Sunday, we
will ask Mrs. Johnson to come
forward and lay an egg on the
altar.
The ladies of the church have
cast off clothing of every kind and
they may be seen in the church
basement on Friday afternoon.”
And another reader submitted
the following practical advice for
Senior Citizens, written by a
retired Methodist minister:
“Every Senior Citizen should
have a small child nearby. They
are the only ones who can remove

Jerry and Annette McSwain
are parents of a boy, Samuel
Albert. He weighed 71 lbs. lloz.,
born on September 15, at Mary
Black Hospital in Spartanburg,
SC.
He has a sister, Brittany and
she is five years old.

Poster Winner
The winners of the EMS Safety
Poster Contest from Sunny View
School are fourth graders
Heather Jamerson and Loren
Finch. Winners were selected
Sept. 20.
Fairchild Sculptures
Win At Exposition
Lee Fairchild of Columbus
entered five wildfowl scupltures
in the Sculptures and Designs in
Wood exposition held in
Greenville, S.C. Memorial
Auditorium last weekend.
He won first place for a belted
kingfisher, first place for a pair
of mourning doves, first place for
a composition of three Bob
Whites, second place for a Saw-
Whet Owl and second place for a
Tree Swallow.
There were 156 wildfowl
sculptures entered in the
competition in which the Belted
Kingfisher won best of show.
Mr. Fairchild was a judge and
featured wildfowl carver at the
same show in 1989. He has been
carving for 11 years and teaches
carving at Tryon Crafts. He is a
member of the Ward Foundation,

Tournament Of Bands
Great Success
The 12th annual Harrison
Elliott Tournament of Bands,
sponsored by the Landrum High
School Distinctive Regiment
Band was held last Saturday with
approximately 1200 band
students participating from
different schools from S.C. and
N.C.
The Landrum High Marching
Band will compete in competition
Saturday at Chesnee, S.C.
Traffic Interuption
Terry Brothers Construction
Company will begin
replacement/extension of some
4200’ of 8” sewer in the Woodland
Park-Glenwalden Circle area on
Tuesday, Oct. 2. During this
period of time, Glenwalden Circle
will be closed to all thru traffic.
Every attempt will be made to
provide access to each residence
at all times. Upon completion of
the project, the entire roadway
will be repaved.

Volleyball game against NCSD is
actually Aixa Lee Belville, a new
student at Tryon High School who
came here with her family from
Puerto Rico.
