now in North Carolina, and has
been for awhile in South Carolina.
New members of The Lanier
Library and newcomers to the
area are invited to a get-
acquainted library tour and
reception Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
Sunny View School will hold its
Fall Festival Friday, starting
with a Turkey Dinner at 5 p.m. to
be followed by festival games at 6
p.m.
O.P. Earle Elementary will
host its Halloween Carnival
Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. There
will be a hot dog supper, a
haunted house, and games,
crafts, and baked goods.
The Polk County Youth Fair
will open to the public at 1 p.m.
Friday at the 4-H Center in
Columbus.

Singing In The Park
Saturday At Stearns
There will be a Singing in the
Park Saturday, Oct. 27 starting at
11 a.m. at the new Stearns Square
Park in Columbus.
Eight singing groups will be
featured and drinks and
sandwiches will be available, all
at no charge. Donations will be
collected during the day, and will
do to help complete the park
project. Jim Dunmire said.
Meet The Candidates
At Saluda Fire Hall
There will be a meet the
candidates night held at the
Saluda Fire Hall Thursday night
at 6:30 p.m.
Candidates for the Polk County
Board of Education and Polk
County Board of Commissioners
have been invited.
There will be a covered dish
supper, and you are encouraged
to bring your favorite dish.
“Come for fellowship, good
food and serious thinking,” says
Shirley Morse. The event is
sponsored by the GOP Saluda
precinct.
Correction
Erin Corcoran, a Tryon Middle
School student, was among 17
area students who qualified in
this year's Duke University
Talented Identification Program.
Her name was mispelled in an
article last Thursday.

Harvest Sale Planned At Congregational
This year’s Harvest Sale at
Tryon Congregational Church
will be Thursday, Nov. 1.
Co-chairmen Rosemary Pleune
and Sybil Strider report that
“International Cuisine” is back
this year, with frozen entrees in
single, double and family size
servings. More edible
temptations will be Soup du Jour,
the Bakery and the jams, jellies
and pickles booth.
Minnesota wild rice and
Louisiana popcorn rice are also
being sold.
Jewelry and collectibles will be
found in the Fellowship Hall. On
the lower level are Basement
Treasures, and the Nearly New
Boutique, offering some designer
labels and other exciting clothing
‘finds.’
New this year in Personal
Creations are decorated
sweatshirts, to put some zing into
those trips to the post office.

hand-knits and much more.

afghans, a bridge luncheon, a
gourmet dinner, handmade
jewelry and several antiques.
Sale hours are from 10:30 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Plenty of parking is
available and lunch will be
served next door at Holy Cross
Church.
Tickets for the house tour, “A
Doll’s Christmas,” also will be
available.
