On that day, the Church members did not use gas or oil fueld vehicles int he normal way as a means of transportation. Participation in this oil free Sunday was an act of worship, symbolizing our trust in God for security; as a spiritual commitment to work for a peaceful resulution to the current conflict; and as a sign of our willingness to make whatever lifestyle sacrifices God may call us to make in the cause of peace. This one day oil “fast” served to remind us of the wider vision of shalom/salaam, the Hebrew'and Arabic greetings which convey similar notions of peace with wholeness. According to this vision, we are called to restored relationships with all the earth’s peoples, especially those living in less powerful nations, and with the creation itself, which has suffered under our abusive misuse of petroleum. Pictured above is Rick and Liz Watson who appear to be a bit winced after completing the 8- mile bike ride to church. Susan Wiley rode her bike from near Boiling Springs, S.C. to the Mill Creek Church located just off No 9, a distance of 10 miles, making her the distance champion fo.- the day. — Reporter Closed At Lunch The Tryon Daily Bulletin office will be closed for one hour from noon to 1 p m.
