Robert Dedmondt, Tryon's official weather reported, is home from the hospital after suffering a heart attack last weekend. The Habitat Auction at the Habitat Resale Store in Landrum will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be available. Betty Jean Steinshouer will bring her nationally acclaimed one-woman portrayal of Pulitzer Prize winning author Willa Cather to the Polk County Public Library Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2:30 p.m. Cather wrote in the early part of this century, powerfully capturing the establishment of a human community on the frontier. The women’s Fellowship of the Congregational Church is holding a tour of the home of Eleanor and Kay Doelling, possibly the stie of the greatest private collection of antique dolls anywhere. There are over 1,000 dolls from 50 to 200 years old. The tours will be held Friday, November 30 and Continued On Back Page Tryon Rotary Club Meets Monday Steve Hill, site manager of the Thomas Wolfe Memorial in Asheville will speak about Thomas Wolfe and related history of Asheville including railroad development in western North Carolina. Hill is a native of Asheville. He graduated from Mars Hill College in 1978 and began working for the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources and the Thomas Wolfe Memorial. — Reporter Who Did It? Jackson Librarian Landrum Interact The Landrum High School Interact Club is sponsoring a bake sale on Saturday, November 17 at the Bi-Lo Grocery Store in Landrum. The sale is to raise money for the club’s Christmas project. All items at the bake sale will be baked by the club members. The sale lasts from 9a.m. to 1 p.m. Foreign Mission Study Dr. Edward Mann of’ Gardner Webb College, Boiling Springs, N.C. will teach the Foreign Mission Study at Columbus Baptist Church on Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. There will be a covered dish dinner at six, followed by the study, “Baptist Ministries in the Arab World.” Dr. Mann was a missionary to Brazil, as director of Evangelism and Missions for the central and western region of Brazil for the Brazilian Baptist Home Mission Board in 1978-1989. Dr. Mann has pastored churches in Texas and Georgia. He is presently teaching at Gardner Webb College. He was named to Outstanding Young Men of America • in 1987 and 1988 also top Scholars in Ministry in 1987 by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Baptist women and men from area churches are invited to come and hear and meet Dr. Mann. — Reporter Ruritan Club Organizing In Mill Spring The Mill Spring Community is in the process of organizing a Ruritan Club.
