Everyone’s been talking about
the possibility of earthquake
aftershocks reaching Polk
County. Scientist Iben Browning
predicted a quake will hit eastern
Tennessee’s New Madrid fault on
or about Dec. 3.
With the memory of the San
Francisco earthquake still fresh
in people’s minds, they are
understandably worried.
Local insurance agents have
informed the Bulletin that
standard automobile policies
most often cover earthquake
perils. However, homeowners
and commercial properties
policies usually do not, unless
earthquake coverage has been
specifically added.
You may want to check with
your insurance agents regarding
your own policies.

School Board
To Be Busy
The Polk County Board of
Education will hold a special
board meeting to discuss
property issues at 6:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Stearns
Education Center.
Earlier that afternoon, at noon,
the board members will travel to
Clover, S.C. to visit two schools
there which were recently
constructed using all-electric
heating and cooling systems.
The Polk County board is
considering using all-electric,
heat pump systems in the nev
Polk County High School. The
board also is considering a
hydroponic “two-pipe” system,
which would pump hot and.cold
water through pipes to heat or
cool the building.
Supt. Dr. James F. Causby said
both types of systems will be put
out for bid, and based on costs
and other factors, the school
board will decide which system to
install.
On Friday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m.
the board will hold a pre-bid
conference at the Stearns
Auditorium to brief contractors
on the project and answer any
questions they may have.
Next Monday, Dec. 3, the board
will hold its regular monthly
meeting at 6:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Dec. 13, at 3
p.m., the construction bids will be
opened in the Stearns
Auditorium.
A week later, on Thursday,
Dec. 20, the bids will be awarded
after a 7:30 a.m. breakfast for
board members and selected
individuals.
