Thanks, Robert. Linda S. Haynes of Tryon was featured in “Center Piece,” the statewide, monthly program magazine of The UNC Center for Public Television’s December issue. Haynes was recently appointed to the public television Board of Trustees to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Morton Cohn of Asheville. The Tryon Little Theater has announced that contrary to its advertisements, the box office will not be open Saturday afternoon for patrons to purchase tickets for this weekend’s presentation of “Steel Magnolias.” The box office will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, and just prior to each show. Poteat of Mill Spring are parents of a son, John Clinton, born Nov. 20. at Rutherford Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. and was 19 inches long. He has a brother, Nathan. 4 years old. The next match on December 10 will be at the home of Gren Sewall. — Reporter St. Luke’s Gift Shop Open House Dec. 2 On Sunday, Dec. 2nd from 1 to 5 p.m. an open house will be held at the St. Luke's Hospital Gift Shop featuring Lilian Jackson Braun, author of “The Cat Who” series of mystery novels. Braun will autograph and “pawtograph” copies of her books from 2 to 3 p.m. during the open house. “Meeting readers is half the fun of writing books." Mrs. Braun said. The Columbus resident, who is Mrs. Earl Bettinger in private life, has 11 titles in print including “The Cat Who Talked To Ghosts”, which has been on the New York Times Bestseller list for several week. — Reporter A New Arrival A daughter was born Monday. Nov. 26, to Roger and Donna Rhodes of 465 Warrior Mountain Road, Saluda at Pardee Hospital. $3,500 Reward Offered In Trucker’s Death A $3,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the death of an Indiana truck driver nine months ago. Philip E. Reed, of Westville, Indiana, was killed on March 21, when someone dropped a dumbbell from an Interstate 26 overpass. The 38-year-old died instantly after the 30-pound weight crashed through his wini - shield and crused his chest. Funding for the $3,500 reward came from Reed’s family and from his trucking company. Sicomac Carriers, Inc. An additional reward of up to $1,000 is available through CrimeStoppers of Spartanburg and, several weeks after the incident, a local restaurant owner offered a $500 reward. Reed was crossing under the Landrum Mill Road overpass on I-26 shortly after midnight when the incident occurred.
