The weather Wednesday: high
74, low 56, hum. 85 percent and by
"a.m. Thursday, .2 inches of rain
had fallen.
Many, many people were
mourning the death of John R.
Knoblock this week. John died
Sunday. He was 72.
A native of Haverville, Mass.,
he moved to Tryon in the 1960s
and joined a real estate venture
known as Richardson & Knoblock
Real Estate. His career in real
estate in the Thermal Belt area
was outstanding.
Others in the industry this past
week remembered Knoblock as a
pioneer, and credited him with
helping the area continue to
blossom, and to be known for its
graciousness.
“John understood the lifestyles
offered by this community and he
could help newcomers become
involved in it,” said Terri
Dorsam and Earl Thompson of
Coldwell Banker Town & Country
Realtors. Knoblock worked with
Coldwell Banker as a consultant
in recent years.
“Realtors for years called him
‘Mr. Real Estate.’ His ethics
were impeccable. He felt genuine
personal concern for every client
and customer he worked with,”

Watch Out For
Dognappers Alert
The Foothills Humane Society
is warning dog owners about a
renewed threat to their pets. All
of a sudden, there has been a
significant increase in reports to
the animal shelter of missing
dogs. According to Nancy Pat
Martin, president of the Society,
“North Carolina has the largest
market in the United States of
dogs sold to research
establishments and it is supplied
in large part by stolen dogs."
Keep an eye on your dog and
put an identity tag on its collar. If
it is missing, here is what to do.
Getting the word out is the most
important thing. Phone the
animal shelter (863-4444) to ask if
it has been brought in and to
report it missing. Check with the
veterinarians to see if it has been
hurt and brought in for
treatment. Put an ad in the three
local papers and on WTYN. Tell
your neighbors, and keep looking.
The Humane Society maintains
a bulletin board with notices of
lost and found dogs and cats.
Members pick up strays and
injured animals, when notified or
when they spot them along the
road, and bring them to the
Shelter. No animal brought to the
Shelter is ever sold to a research
establishment. Members will
even help you look for your pet.
All services of the Soceity are
provided by volunteers and are
financed by fund raisers and
contributions.
